SMOKING

› Increases the risk of mortality 2x if you have a stroke.
› The more cigarettes a day, the higher the risk of stroke. For example: If you smoke 20 cigarettes/day. Has 6x the risk of stroke than non-smokers.
› Chemicals in cigarettes such as nicotine can increase heart rate & blood pressure immediately when smoked.

› Smokers have a risk of developing high blood pressure, which is one of the highest factors causing stroke.
› These risks are also faced by passive smokers.
› Quitting smoking reduces the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
