Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)

WHAT IS ABPM?

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring or ABPM is a method of measuring blood pressure for 24 hours including during sleep, and is an accurate method in confirming the diagnosis of hypertension.

WHY SHOULD BLOOD PRESSURE BE CHECKED FOR 24 HOURS?

Blood pressure can rise and fall naturally during the day and night. A person's blood pressure can rise when under stressful conditions such as going to the hospital, so blood pressure measured once cannot be said to represent blood pressure throughout the day. ABPM helps assess blood pressure more accurately during routine activities, so you can be absolutely sure whether you have high blood pressure or not.
